Kitchens are full of so many smaller items and appliances, making it one of the hardest rooms to pack when getting ready to move. Removing everything from your shelves can take up a lot of your packing time. You risk breaking dishes, pots and pans, or nice glasses if you rush through your kitchen packing spree. Here are some tips to make packing up your kitchen a bit easier:
Packing Appliances
If you are packing a kitchen TV, Crockpot, microwave, or anything like that, use the original boxes if you held on to them. If you didn’t, try to find boxes of the similar size. Before you pack them, try to get rid of any dust or dirt to make it easier once you get to your new space. Remove any breakable parts and pack it up! If you think you may need an owners manual to reconstruct this appliance, definitely try to find it. Wrap and of the removed pieces in bubble wrap and label them so you know where to find it when you unpack.
Packing Dinnerware
You should be packing plates, bowls, and cups in a lot of bubble wrap to ensure they get from point A to point B in one piece. Wrap each portion of dinner plates and bowls with a small layer of tissue paper or packing paper and pile them in the box. Try to add an extra sheet of bubble wrap or newspaper in between every few dishes to make sure they don’t break. If you have any fine china or champagne glasses, opt for wrapping those is cloths or old t shirts.
Packing Silverware
Loose silverware can break other items if packed together. Try to sort out the silverware by utensil and wrap them all together. This way you won’t be searching for spoons in different places. These are a great size to store in a shoebox or a smaller box in general. That way, they won’t be thrown around in a standard-sized moving box.
Packing Pots and Pans
Find a box for your pots and pans that fits your biggest pan. Use that box for all of them if you can. Just stack them one on top of the other. After all the pots and pans are in the box, you can either wrap the lids or put them elsewhere but clearly mark that box!
